And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 But when he brought them Our signs, lo, they laughed at them. 47 Of all the miracles which We showed to them the latter ones were greater than the former. We struck them with torment so that perhaps they would return to Us. 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, behold, they broke their troth. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 Why then have bracelets of gold not been cast on him, or angels not come with him conjoined?' 53 Thus he incited his people to levity, and they obeyed him: for, behold, they were people depraved! 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 and We made them a thing of the past, and We made them an example to later people. 56
