Indeed We sent Moses with Our Signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He told them: “I am a Messenger of the Lord of the Universe.” 46 But as soon as he came before them with Our [miraculous] signs, lo! they derided them, 47 And We did not show them a sign but it was greater than its like, and We overtook them with chastisement that they may turn. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 In this way he fooled his people and they obeyed him: they were a rebellious people. 54 So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. 55 and so We made them a thing of the past, and an example to those who would come after them. 56
