We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He said, "I am the messenger of the Lord of the Universe," 46 But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them. 47 (Even though) each miracle that We showed them was greater than the other. So We seized them with chastisement so that they may turn back. 48 They said, "Sorcerer, call on your Lord for us, by virtue of His pledge to you: we shall certainly accept guidance," 49 But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant (that they will believe if We remove the torment for them). 50 And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. 55 and We made them a thing of the past, and We made them an example to later people. 56
