We sent Moses to the Pharaoh and his nobles with Our miracles and he said, "I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Universe". 46 When he showed them Our miracles, they started to laugh at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 They said, "Sorcerer, call on your Lord for us, by virtue of His pledge to you: we shall certainly accept guidance," 49 Yet no sooner did We take away the affliction from them than they broke their pledge. 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible (man), who can scarcely make things clear (because of the impediment of his speech)? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 So when he had brainwashed his people, they followed him; indeed they were a disobedient nation. 54 So when they vexed Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all. 55 And We made them a precedent (as a lesson for those coming after them), and an example to later generations. 56
