And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 Yet when he brought forth Clear Signs from Us, then lo, they burst into laughter. 47 And not a sign We showed them, but it was greater than its sister sign; and We seized them with chastisement, that haply they should return. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 "Then why are not gold bracelets bestowed on him, or (why) come (not) with him angels accompanying him in procession?" 53 He incited his people to levity and they obeyed him. Surely they were an iniquitous people. 54 And when they angered Us, We took vengeance on them and drowned all of them, 55 And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples. 56
