And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 But when he came to them with Our Signs, behold they ridiculed them. 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 (Whenever they faced an affliction) they would say: “O magician, pray for us to your Lord according to your station with Him. We shall certainly be guided to the Right Way.” 49 So when We averted the calamity from them, they immediately broke the promise! 50 Pharaoh called to his people, "My people, is the Kingdom of Egypt not mine? And these rivers that flow at my feet, are they not mine? Do you not see? 51 Aye! I am better than this one who is despicable, and well-nigh cannot make himself plain. 52 Why have bracelets of gold not been given to him and why have some angels not accompanied him?" 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 But when they roused Our anger We inflicted retributive punishment and drowned them all, 55 And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples. 56
