We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his nobles. He said, "I am the messenger of the Lord of the Universe," 46 When he showed them Our miracles, they started to laugh at them. 47 although each sign that We showed them was weightier than the preceding one: and [each time] We took them to task through suffering, so that they might return [to Us]. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: “My people, do I not have dominion over Egypt, and are these streams not flowing beneath me? Can't you see? 51 Nay! I am better than this fellow, who is contemptible, and who can hardly speak distinctly: 52 "Then why are not gold bracelets bestowed on him, or (why) come (not) with him angels accompanying him in procession?" 53 He incited his people to levity and they obeyed him. Surely they were an iniquitous people. 54 So when they made Us wrathful, We took revenge from them – We therefore drowned all of them. 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
