And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 Yet when he brought forth Clear Signs from Us, then lo, they burst into laughter. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 but when We relieved them of the torment, they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: 'O my people, do I not possess the kingdom of Egypt, and these rivers flowing beneath me? What, do you not see? 51 Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 He incited his people to levity and they obeyed him. Surely they were an iniquitous people. 54 So when they vexed Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all. 55 And made them a precedent and example for posterity. 56
