۞ NOW WHENEVER [the nature of] the son of Mary is set forth as an example, [O Muhammad,] lo! thy people raise an outcry on this score, 57 saying, "Are our gods better or him?" -- they cite him only to challenge you: they are a contentious people -- 58 He is nothing but a slave on whom We bestowed favour, and We made him a pattern for the Children of Israel. 59 Had it been Our Will We would have made angels among you as successors in the earth. 60 And verily he is a sign of the Hour wherefore dubitate not thereof, and follow Me: this is the straight path. 61 And let not Satan turn you aside. Lo! he is an open enemy for you. 62 When Jesus came with clear proof (in support of his truthfulness), he said, "I have come to you with wisdom to clarify for you some of the matters in which you have disputes. Have fear of God and obey me. 63 Allah is my Lord and your Lord; therefore, serve Him. That is the Straight Way.” 64 But the parties among them fell into variance; so woe unto those who did evil, because of the chastisement of a painful day. 65 Are they waiting (for any thing) but the Hour (of Doom) which would descend upon them suddenly, and catch them unawares? 66 Friends will turn into enemies on that day, except those who fear and follow the straight path. 67
