Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
