Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
