Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
