Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
