Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
