Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
