Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
