Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
