Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
