Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
