Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
