Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
