Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
