Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
