Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
