Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
