Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
