Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
