Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
