Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
