Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
