Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 The command that We have been sending 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
