Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
