Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
