Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
