Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
