Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
