Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
