Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
