Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
