Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
