Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
