Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HA MIM. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
