Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
