Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 The command that We have been sending 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us we now accept faith.” 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
