Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim! 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 The command that We have been sending 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
