Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
