Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HaMeem 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
