Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
