Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
