Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HA MIM. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
